Considerations for Starting a Business

Have an idea for a new business? Not sure where to start? See the attached document for a list of things to consider when thinking about becoming an entrepreneur. It is not a complete list of things to consider. It is hoped that it will give you a good start on your way to getting done what is needed to start a business.

Industrial - JEDC

The Jackson Economic Development Corporation (JEDC) is a private not for profit corporation. It is the mission of the JEDC to strengthen the local economy by bringing new businesses and industries to the Jackson area and help existing businesses prosper.

Retail & Service - JBDC

The Jackson Business Development Committee (JBDC) helps facilitate the development and retention of local service and retail businesses.

The Economic Development Authority (EDA) is a public commission which focuses primarily on housing. The EDA minutes can be found under the Agendas/Minutes tab.


The EDA has three (3) subdivisions in the City of Jackson, with lots available in each. Plat maps of the subdivisions can be found here. There are also various other single lots available throughout town. Please visit www.jccmls.com for more information about available lots.

Reward & Incentive Programs

Reward Programs: Provide a lead which creates 2 or more full-time jobs in Jackson, MN, and you could be $1,000 richer. Help us find a new business or industry that creates 10 or more jobs for the Jackson, Minnesota, area and you could be $5,000 richer.

Incentive Programs: Building a new home or starting or expanding a business? Incentive coupons redeemable at local businesses are available to you. There are also financial incentive programs for home building whether your an individual looking at building your home or a contractor looking to build a spec home.

Financial Assistance

Various programs available for down-payment and closing cost assistance, owner occupied housing fix up, and rental housing fix up. Please see attached brochures.

Business Loans

Retail, service, and industrial businesses in Jackson have access to funds through the City’s Revolving Loan Fund. New and existing businesses should check out the guidelines to see if they qualify and contact the Economic Development Office at 507-847-4423 for more information.
